Leesburg Library starting a TWAB Group
If your kids are too old for storytime but too young for teen events, we don’t want them to feel left out of library activities. Ms. Jessica is trying to start a Tween Advisory Board (TwAB), for kids between the ages of 9 and 12. The Leesburg Library wants to plan activities that are tween friendly, keep kids involved with library programs, and prepare them for the time when they can volunteer at the library as teen helpers. This may involve craft programs, book clubs, games, and special guests, but we need input from parents and kids. If you would like your child to be part of our TwAB (Tween Advisory Board), please call Ms. Jessica at 728-9790, and volunteer your tween age child (you know they won’t do it themselves :)). Once a group is put together, we’ll plan a Tuesday after school meeting so that everyone can talk about this great new group at the Leesburg Library.

Turn Off the TV and Come to the Leesburg Public Library
Now, here’s a fresh idea. April 21-27 has been declared “TV Turn-off Week” (www.tvturnoff.org), so click off the remote, get off the couch, and come to the Leesburg Public Library for fun activities without commercial interruptions. Children, 5 to 12, can celebrate Earth Day, on April 22 at 4 PM, by making “Save the Planet” journals with Ms. Jessica. On Wednesday, April 23 at 3:30 PM, Ms. Lois will be under the Puppet Tree with a program of family read-alouds. Teens can show their creativity by sharing their poems, writings, or music at the Open Mic Event, on Wed., April 23 at 6 to 8 PM. On Thursday, April 24 from 5 to 7 PM, you and your kids can come to the library and play board games in the Youth Room. Folks who come to the library during the last week of April will also be able to pick up copies of the Summer Reading calendar so that you can plan ahead for program attendance. While you’re at the library, check out some good books, the low-tech, entertaining, mind-expanding activity that will keep you and your kids entertained and enriched, all the time.
Living without TV isn’t hard, not when you have the Leesburg Public Library in town. Call 728-9790 for further information.
