Mr. Richard Sings and Butterflies Fly at the Leesburg Library
It is the last “Big Event” of Summer Reading, so the Leesburg Public Library is planning a special treat. Nationally known kids’ personality, Mr. Richard, will be bringing his guitar to sing and entertain you with songs like “Bananas,” “Butterfly Day,” and “The Hey Hey Song.” You will be able to buy Mr. Richard’s CD’s from him following the performance. Mr. Richard will appear in the Carol Gregg Meeting Room near the Main Street entrance of the library.
At noon, kids who have won a chance to release a butterfly in the “Catch the Reading Bug” program will gather in the library’s butterfly garden to let their butterflies go. We’ll also have bubble treats for other kids who show up.
Children must be signed up for Summer Reading to attend Wednesday programs, and must be wearing an orange reading wristband to identify them as Summer Readers. Sign up is in the Youth Department of the library. Groups are welcome, but all children must be registered to attend. The program will start promptly, and doors will close at 10 AM.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame in Leesburg
Listen and watch as Rick Reed, Curator of the Leesburg Historical Museum and newspaper columnist, gives a history of baseball and Leesburg at the Leesburg Public Library on Sunday, June 1st, at 2:00 pm in the Carol Gregg Meeting Room.
Baseball played a very important part in the early days of Leesburg, affecting school, social, and business life in the community. It made Leesburg an “all American town,” because what can be more hometown wholesome than baseball. That great American Pastime – baseball – has been a big part of the City of Leesburg since before Venetian Gardens’ Pat Thomas Stadium at Buddy Lowe Field was built in 1937. Town teams from Leesburg played teams from other towns over a period of about 100 years. Games were first played in Leesburg on the town field around 13th Street and later at Cooke Field, now site of the Cutrale Juice Plant.
For further information on this program, contact Carol Anderson, Adult Services Librarian, at 728-9790. The program is free and open to the public.
