Summer Reading “ Bug-ins” at the Leesburg Public Library

What’s that buzzing in the air?  What’s that flying all around?  It’s news of the annual Summer Reading Program, coming soon to the Leesburg Public Library.  Kids, ages pre-school to 12, can join “Catch the Reading Bug,” and read hours for prizes, starting on June 9 and continuing through July 25.  We’ll reward kids for 5 hours, 15 hours, and 25 or more hours of reading.  Prizes start with tattoos and swimming passes for 5 hours; then the prizes get bigger with cool earbuds (to use with the library’s computers), and a chance to take part in a butterfly release for kids who read at least 15 hours.  Kids who are “Super Readers,” and read at least 25 hours can enter to win drawings for kits, books, T-shirts, or a chance to visit the Butterfly Rainforest in Gainesville.

There are also programs for all ages, from toddlers through teens, throughout the summer, so you’ll want to get in early to register for all of the fun.  “Big Events,” our exciting Wednesday morning programs, will be held in the library’s meeting rooms, this year.  You must be registered in “Catch the Reading Bug,” and be wearing a Summer Reading bracelet to attend any library program.

Also, if you are a baseball fan, we will be signing up Summer Readers who would like to run on the field at a Leesburg Lightning game.  The library is happy to cooperate with the Leesburg Department of Recreation for this program.

Registration starts on May 12, so you’ll want to get to the Leesburg Library at 100 E. Main St. to make sure that you have a time tracker to keep track of your reading hours, and have signed up for programs, throughout the summer.

Want more information? Stop by the Youth Services Department or call the library at 728-9790.
